Submit a motion that may improve care of patients with fibromyalgia (15/09/2009)

Socialist Parliamentary Group, at the initiative of Senator Francisco Abellán, has filed a motion that could improve the care of patients with fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome in Jumilla, affects about 80 people, as confirmed by the president association of town María Soriano.

Thus, the Socialist parliamentary group has asked the processing of a motion urging the Government to continue to ensure access to Public Health and Social System to all those people suffering from fibromyalgia or chronic fatigue syndrome, as well as update the contents of the document on fibromyalgia in order to incorporate advances on the treatment and diagnosis of this condition.

As stated by the mayor and senator Francisco Abellán, which has confirmed that this motion is debated next week, "would be a very important step for this group, Jumilla whose disease affects about 80 people in the region for about 25,000 ".

Abellán added that "these patients are grouped in the locality Jumillano Fibromyalgia Association, a group that develops a very prominent activity for improving the quality of life of those suffering from the disease as well as advice from family and friends. "

The text of the motion tabled in the Senate indicates that "patients with fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome, along with family, friends, associations, professionals and health-conscious this problem, are going to the society, social partners and institutions to express several requirements.

Some of their claims referred to are people who suffer from diseases that cause pain and chronic fatigue.

This pain and persistent fatigue affects their lives in the personal, familial, social and professional.

Despite the progress and achievements of recent years in some autonomous communities are not adequately protected by our Public Health and Social System.

The motion also said to "remove obstacles and facilitate the accessibility and equity of public system in all government.

It is therefore necessary to ensure universal access to Public Health and Social System of patients with fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome on an equal footing with any other disease patients.

It is also necessary to ensure the fairness of the system in all the Autonomous Communities, with unique protocols for diagnosis, treatment and prevention as well as ensuring public research and the promotion of private research to improve treatments and prevent disease.

This is a request that patients with fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome are claiming many points of the Spanish geography.

Request, basically, an increased awareness by family doctors and rheumatologists, who are responsible for the diagnosis and treatment, and more means to fight a disease reduces the quality of life of sufferers to bring in many cases depression and misunderstanding of the closest.

In the Region of Murcia there are five associations of Fibromyalgia in Murcia, Cartagena, Yecla and Jumilla Cieza.

They meet every first Saturday of each month at 18:00 pm
