The 'Jumillita' is present in the Museum of Rocks, University of Murcia (26/06/2009)

The 'Jumillita' is present in the newly opened Museum of Rocks, University of Murcia.

This initiative aims to show the geological history of the Region of Murcia and 'Jumillita' is present between the main rocks.

The 'Jumillita is a very symbolic and cherished piece of Jumilla.

It is a rock known worldwide, found mainly in the lamproite volcanic outcrop of rock from the mines of the Celia de Jumilla with a length of between 10.6 and 6 million years.

Last Wednesday on 17 was opened by the Rector of the University of Murcia José Antonio Cobacho, Campus Espinardo University, an outdoor museum with 26 rocks of the Region of Murcia, the project carried out by teachers Agricultural Chemistry Department of Geology and, with the chief Professor Miguel Angel Mancheño, consisting of specimens of rocks of different lithology and age, among which are limestone, dolomite, sandstone, marble and basalt lamproites.

This initiative aims to show the geological history of the Region of Murcia.

How could it be otherwise 'Jumillita' is present in the rocks of the collection with the number 23 and two large blocks that have been collected from the Celia Mine, including a chip has been placed in which brand place of origin, characteristics, geologic age and training.

The event was attended by paleontologist DG Culture and directors of museums in the region, including Cayetano Herrera Museum of Natural Science Jumilla and known professors of geology at the University of Murcia as Rafael Arana , Francisco Guillen, Roque Ortiz and Tomas Rodriguez Star Technical University of Cartagena, all familiar with our municipal and students of the geology of Jumilla.
