Cerda said that "Murcia has a leading animal health," and noted that the Region of Murcia "is developing a pioneering program in Spain for the eradication of tuberculosis goats, which reaches all the farms and that is giving unique results."

He said further that "food security have been fostered fresh goat cheese quality, protected Denomination of Origin, which has placed the region as the largest exporter of this product."

The goat industry in the Region of Murcia bill 20 million per year and is represented by only 635 herds of goats, and many other mixed, sheep and goats, with a total of 140,000 adult goat annually producing more than 200,000 kids.

The regional goat produces 35 million liters of milk per year, of which 25 million are sold for processing into cheese.

Signing an agreement for genetic improvement

The Department also contributes to the genetic improvement of the regional race, and a € 130,000 funding agreement with the Association and the Core in the development of the Official Milk Control.

Last year a total of 12,081 certified lactation controlled which meant an additional grant of 60,405 euros to farmers partners.

Furthermore, in order for the genetic improvement achieved by ACRIMUR can reach all herds in the region, the Minister of Agriculture signed after the presentation of the competition, an agreement whereby the Ministry allocated € 90,000 to the Center of male Center for Agricultural Training and Experience Lorca (CIFE), which in the past year have been inseminated 2,952 goats belonging to 36 farms in Murcia and 11 outside the region.
