The City Council held on 30 th anniversary of the first democratic municipal elections as (07/04/2009)

The municipal elections held on April 3, 1979, in which citizens could freely elect councilors and mayors / municipalities as of all Spanish, were the road to democratic standards in our country.

In 1979, the Constitution of the early councils was a true celebration of freedom, and celebrate 30 years on the anniversary of the first municipal elections is celebrating the triumph of the values of dialogue, participation, tolerance, commitment, responsibility, progress and welfare and, ultimately, to commemorate the consolidation of our democracy.

The first councils were the scene of democratic development and consolidation of democracy, political participation, the consolidation of citizenship rights but also the implementation and expansion of services, now universal, which have helped increase welfare and quality of life of people.

Local governments have been formed in Jumilla major engine of social change and the drivers of the most important advances that have lived our municipality.

In these thirty years, men and women Jumilla neighbors have dedicated their illusions, their time and expertise to represent with dedication and responsibility to their neighbors.

People who, in his capacity as local government representatives, councilors and mayors, have contributed their work to defend freedom, coexistence and equal opportunities, supreme values of democracy.

Therefore, from the municipality of Jumilla is preparing a series of events and activities that develop over the coming months to celebrate thirty years of the existence of democratic councils after a brutal dictatorship where Jumilla neighbors could not choose their rulers.

Besides Mayor Francisco Abellán Jumilla said that "in this Legislature, we must have a new model of local financing, common throughout the country, equipped with adequate participation in both government taxes (PIE), as the Autonomous Communities (diamonds), and stable enough to meet the demands and needs of the citizens and should be developed and agreed with the FEMP simultaneously and linked to the financing agreement with the Autonomous Communities. "
