The Ministry of Health has launched this week a campaign of vaccination against pertussis in pregnant due to the recent increase in cases in infants.
The vaccination will be carried free of charge through the health centers Service of Murcia and is applied in a single dose.
Administration is recommended between weeks 27 and 36, preferably between 27 and 32, although the vaccine may receive up to 38 weeks.
The goal is to reach at least 80 percent of the 17,500 women annually Murcia become pregnant.
To this end, 10,543 doses were acquired for an amount of 100,000 euros.
The purpose is to protect the infant by a stimulus pertussis immunity of pregnant women, to produce antibodies which are passively transferred to the fetus through the placenta.
