This weekend Jumilla hosts the regional phase of the XXVI Olympiad Mathematics of the Region of Murcia (15/04/2015)

The next Saturday, April 18, will be held at the IES Archbishop Lozano de Jumilla, the end of the XXVI Olympiad Mathematics of the Region of Murcia, a test organized by the Society of Mathematical Education in the Region of Murcia, SEMRM, in collaboration with the center and with the Department of Education to meet in Jumilla finalists pupils across the region, for the final and know the names that represent Murcia in the national phase.

The main objectives of the Olympiad are part stimulate interest in mathematics among students develop their capacity for reflection and analysis and "working Mathematics" in a playful way, seeking a relaxed atmosphere in which the competitive aspects are a mere instrument and should not in any case foster competitiveness among different schools.

The Department of Education works with the test through, commemorative plaques for the three students who will represent the region at the XXVI National Mathematical Olympiad and breakfast with students participating and giving gifts for everyone.

Also, from the Department of Tourism a guided tour of the old town of Jumilla finalists students of both the category of Sixth Primary and Second ESO, together with their families and accompanying teachers will be offered, departing from the IES Archbishop Lozano de Jumilla.

Following this tour will take place on public awards ceremony and closing ceremony of the XXVI Olympiad Mathematics of Murcia, in the Hall of IES Archbishop Lozano de Jumilla.

Mathematics as a hobby

Mathematical Olympiad is an annual event which consists of three phases: Regional, Regional and National.

The regional phase is carried out simultaneously in five venues or municipalities, in order to bring the event to all locations in our community.

This year took place on March 7 in Caravaca de la Cruz, Cartagena, Lorca, Murcia and Jumilla.

At this stage a total of 1125 students across the region were presented: 470 Year 6 Primary and 655 of 2nd of ESO, which is a record of participation.

The regional phase is held every year in one of the seats.

In it, three students from 2nd of ESO who will represent the Region of Murcia in the national phase are selected.

This year corresponds to the headquarters of Jumilla, and be held on April 18 at the IES Archbishop Lozano of this city.

Finally the national phase serves as a meeting place, and coexistence for a few days, among students in 2nd ESO winners of the various regional phases.

In it, besides mathematics (individual and team) recreational-recreational and cultural activities that provide insight into the social, historical and cultural characteristics of the place where the Olympiad is organized are scheduled.

In this twenty-sixth edition will be held in Zaragoza and Huesca, from 24 to 28 June, organized by the Aragonese Society "Pedro Sánchez Plum" of Teachers of Mathematics, in collaboration with the Spanish Federation of Teachers of Mathematics, FESPM.
