Children of Jumilla get into the skin of archaeologists to assess respect for the heritage (16/07/2014)

Among the children's activities scheduled for summer this weekend, a parade of archaeologists walked the streets of San Anton to the vicinity of the Plaza de Arriba.

It was not a carnival parade, or an archaeological congress, but a group of children between 4 and 11 years, some even from out of town, with all the enthusiasm that characterizes them, played at being archaeologists for a day.

Played and learned, because that is the true goal of child activity "Small archaeologists."

This is an activity aimed at children fruit of the co-organization of the Department of Culture and Tourism and the House of SCL Museum, and in its third edition, will again gather twenty of future scientists with an enviable enthusiasm and curiosity discover what lies beneath our feet.

Early in the morning on the West Round Juan Pablo II, monitors House Museum had a small idea of ​​what it entails an excavation of the different phases, techniques and tools, and preparing a grid-style authentic Archaeological so that each child had a plot where to dig and find out what hidden sands exploration.

So, with great surprise to everyone, different ceramics were seeing the light, and conveniently classified being deposited in a bag and then try to shape those pieces of "pots".

After the field work, and after a short break for lunch and replenish fluids, archaeologist gang went to the Archaeological Museum "Jerónimo Molina" to continue laboratory work there.

There, with some difficulty, young researchers were composing different pieces to get them their original form.

The ceramics adorn the shelves today more than one small serving archaeologists also recall the effort it takes to unravel the puzzle of our past, even if "only" been a game.

Upcoming activities

Throughout the summer, the Department of Culture in collaboration with the House Museum, have organized a full program of workshops, in which small, will become, among other things, museum guides, know the festivities, flora Jumilla and fauna, and made a treasure chest in the various activities that will be developed over the summer.

The next event will take place on Saturday, July 26, under the title, "Become the best museum guide Jumilla", in which children learn how to teach all that encloses the Ethnographic Museum and Natural Sciences.

By 15 August, the little known folk traditions and origin of the Fair and Festivals in August in the activity "Our Patroness".

On September 6 will be the flora and fauna of the municipality, the protagonist of the cultural agenda of the children of Jumilla, with a workshop on albums of the animals and plants that make up the nature of the village.

The last activity in the third quarter, will be held on September 13 and will focus on the preparation of a "treasure chest" in which to keep all the memories of the various activities that children will enhancing all summer.
