Lorenzo Vilas and Consuelo Arias received the appointment of the Municipal Museum Socium "Jerónimo Molina" (23/12/2013)

Last Friday, were held appointments SOCIUM the Municipal Museum "Jerónimo Molina", which this year have gone to teachers of Geology, Complutense University of Madrid: Vilas Minondo Lorenzo and his wife, Consuelo Arias Ordás.

The event, which was chaired by the Mayor of Jumilla, Enrique Jiménez Sánchez and with the assistance of Councillor Delegate of Culture and Tourism, Maria Dolores Fernandez, took place in the Section of Ethnology and Natural Sciences of the Municipal Museum "Jerónimo Molina" specifically in the living paleontology Sima de la Hoya, the reservoir so many hours of work and study have been devoted both geologists.

With this recognition, the Department of Tourism publicly highlighted the work of these two researchers for over 25 years to put the value of the geological richness Jumilla taking as reference the site of the Hoya de la Sima and its environment, and conducting several scientific studies of the geological formation of the area.

After a brief introduction of the Councillor for Culture, in which thanked the invaluable contribution both have made the Section of Natural Sciences Municipal Museum, we proceeded to the appointment, after a sketch of each, which was read the broad curriculum and where it has highlighted more than twenty years they have worked in the Altiplano Jumilla-Yecla, especially in the municipality of Jumilla, with special reference to the site of fossil footprints of large mammals Hoya Sima and their active collaboration in assembling and graphical part of the Section of Natural Sciences, in particular collections of paleontology and mineralogy, which clearly is considered invaluable.

Both teachers were presented with a scroll certifying their status as the Municipal Museum SOCIUM "Jerónimo Molina".

Closed the ceremony the mayor of Jumilla, Enrique Jimenez, who reiterated his gratitude for their invaluable collaboration with the Municipal Museum, for their interesting and valuable studies on the geology of the area, and spread the name of Jumilla and its geological wealth around the world.

Maria Consuelo Arias degree in Geological Sciences at the University of Complutense of Madrid, was part of the Higher Council for Scientific Research in opposition, until his retirement.

He has participated in over 17 projects in R & D in public calls, and has published over 80 scientific papers of which eight are books, and the majority, over 20 years ago refers to Jumilla or vicinity.

Also participated in the geological inventory Jumilla-Yecla Altiplano, and contributed panels and paleontological specimens classified as high value to the Museum of Ethnography.

Lorenzo Vilas has been Full Professor at the Complutense University of Madrid for 26 years, has worked in the Hoya de la Sima since its discovery, bringing technicians, geologists and professors from various universities, both for study and for conservation.

In 2001, was in charge of organizing the World Congress in Spain of Geologists, in which researchers visited Jumilla important to raise awareness to this important group, the Hoya de la Sima, The Carche, Castle and Solana Sopalmo.
