Jumilla is visited by a delegation of businessmen from Germany and Benelux interested in the wine market (11/11/2013)

The Ministry of Industry, Enterprise and Innovation, through the Institute for the Promotion of the Region (Info), has promoted the visit of a delegation of businessmen from Germany and the Benelux area (Belgium, Netherlands and Luxembourg), import specialists Wine and opinion in their countries of origin.

These have participated, from November 6 to 8, on a trade mission to see first hand the offer winemaking in the region.

As part of this mission, Murcia have organized tastings wineries and winemakers have held business meetings with European importers.

In addition, the foreign delegation, accompanied by business promoters, has toured several wineries of the three designations of origin for the Region, Jumilla, Yecla and Bullas.

This action reinforces the positioning of Murcia wine industry abroad to facilitate knowledge of the wines of the region.

The director of Info, Juan Hernandez, said that actions of this kind "are committed to the internationalization to grow and strengthen the competitiveness of the wine sector, in addition to position regional designations of origin abroad".

The countries selected for this mission shared characteristics are potential consumers of wine, in addition to a growing purchasing power and value of organic products.

Germany is the largest importer of wines in the world and the fourth global consumer market, while in the Benelux growing number of consumers.

Add to this that in Europe the market share of organic products increases.

"They are, therefore, strategic destinations for regional export growth," said Hernandez.

In 2012, Germany stood as the first Spanish wine importer, above the United Kingdom and the United States.

In the Region of Murcia exports of food products and beverages to the German market are around 4.098 million euros (15 percent more than in 2011), of which approximately 446 million, 10.8 percent, are heading Wine.

Moreover, Spain is the second largest supplier of wine in Belgium and the Netherlands per capita consumption of wine has increased considerably in recent years.

Also, the wine Luxembourg market is increasingly competitive and open to the outside.

The Institute for the Promotion of the Region of Murcia has organized the business meeting in the framework of the activities of the 'Promotion Plan' to offer support services to companies in Murcia to boost its output to other countries.

The DO Jumilla, an upward trend

According to the latest market data published by the Council of the Designation of Origin Jumilla, the campaign 2012/2013 closes with a very positive figure for the local wine, with 18.4 million liters sold, highlighting the increasing export 14% of bottles with DOP review Jumilla, for the sixth consecutive year.

With this increase, sales in foreign markets manage to be in amounts similar to those of national an "unprecedented" point from the Control Board.
