The president of the Community of Murcia, Ramón Luis Valcárcel, today highlighted the "great work" of the community of irrigators from Jumilla Miraflores, which has completed the modernization of its irrigable area in more than 1,300 hectares of fruit, " implying a more rational, committed and efficient water ".

This community of irrigators, declared of National Interest in the 60s, is the most advanced in Spain and pioneered the use of modern irrigation systems and water rationing.

The works of Miraflores, with an investment of 4 million euros, of which 2.8 are public subsidy, have involved the construction of the necessary facilities for water supply, storage, supply and transport of water from sewage for reuse.

These new facilities allow 972 irrigators use this water in a growing area of ​​1,300 hectares, comprising 75 percent on stone fruit, such as pear, peach, cherry, apricot and plum, and to a lesser extent, vineyards, olive and almond.

107 performances irrigation communities throughout the Region

In the past 20 years, investment in this community of irrigators from Jumilla have been EUR 19 million, with a grant of 62 percent and 38 percent contributed by the irrigators themselves.

The regional government has already acted in 107 irrigation communities, which has modernized 87 percent of the irrigable area of ​​the Region of Murcia (more than 148,000 hectares modernized).
