Closing of the Sewing Workshop organized by Project Abraham and the Department of Social Services (13/06/2012)

Both the Director General of Pensions, as the Mayor of Jumilla their appreciation for this type of action and reaffirmed their commitment to social policies.

The Director General of Pensions, Assessment and Inclusion Programs IMAS, John Brown, Mayor, Enrique Jimenez and the Councillor for Social Services, John Calabuig Martinez, and the President and Secretary of the Association Project Abraham, Rafael Sanchez and Maria Joseph Chumillas have been responsible for closing the Sewing Workshop organized by Project Abraham and the Department of Social Services.

This course is part of the actions developed and organized within the Partnership Program for Social Inclusion Center for Social Services Jumilla, which since 2008 has worked with people at risk of exclusion or situation giving them the skills for improve their personal, family and society.

This activity includes Abraham Project by the material, equipment and expenses of hiring an instructor in the municipality of Jumilla.

The City in turn, provides the transfer of local and support the organization and management of the workshop, through the professional's Partnership program.

With this, there are now, two workshops Abraham Project Association held in the town since the consistory Jumillano subscribe the cooperation agreement with the nonprofit entity in 2001.

In the past two years, 18 people, arising from local social services has been trained in the art of sewing and cobbler in a training program that aims at the professional qualifications of persons at risk and / or social exclusion , in order to facilitate their incorporation into the labor market normalized.

The criteria to be followed when selecting participants were those people in intervention from the Social Services Center and are undergoing a process of change and social inclusion adequately.

This workshop offers an opportunity to improve their training and professional qualifications, occupational activity shared with others that allows you to be gaining skills and abilities in sewing and keep improving their confidence and self esteem.

Was conducted during the month of May, from day 2 to 31, with a duration of 44 hours practice time from 10:30 to 12:30 from Monday to Friday, and nine people participated (7 women and 2 men ) living in Jumilla.

The instructor responsible for providing the workshop was the seamstress jumillana, Mari Carmen Fernandez Navarro, and during the course taught to the pupils and students, to carry out hand sewing, arranging clothing, used clothing recycling unusable and turn it into a bag to bag or bags of bread.

They have also learned the management of Industrial iron and some notions about the use of electric sewing machine.

PROJECT ACTIVITY IN ABRAHAM JUMILLA.

The fight against poverty and exclusion is one of the statutory purposes and objectives of the Association Project Abraham.

The same purpose as the partnership agreement provides that the City of Jumilla has with the entity, and why they develop these socio-occupational training workshops in collaboration with the local technical team.

In addition to social obligations, the purposes referred to in the agreement signed between the municipality and the association are also environmental.

The preservation of the environment is one of the main purposes of agreement established.

Avoid reducing domestic waste disposal, clothing, footwear and toys in municipal waste is one of the environmental objectives.

This project has installed 16 Abraham recycling containers in the town of Jumilla and as properly authorized manager is responsible for the collection and management of these wastes.

The number of containers will be extended with another 8, taken from the municipality and transferred to the partnership to develop the activity of collecting and managing waste.

Reuse and recycling is under current legislation, the final destination of solid waste.

And that's the Abraham Project management that makes the clothes, shoes and toys collected.

To raise awareness about the convenience of the selective separation of these residues, the office has launched an environmental awareness campaign under the slogan: "Do not throw it away, give it to me."

It is a campaign aimed at all schools in the region of Murcia, which tries to promote the recycling of clothing, footwear and toys, through awareness-raising talks that explain the traceability of waste, ie the final destination .

This campaign will soon offer schools in Jumilla, although during the first half of 2012 has made a speech at the College Concerted Cruz de Piedra.

Project Abraham is an entity of Social Economy, which uses waste disposed people and transforms them into a charity project that creates jobs among groups at risk and / or social exclusion.

And it does so in the context of a social project in which the social return premium above the economic benefit.

Abraham Project is committed to the consistory for the activities in Jumilla generate employment among the population of the municipality.
