The Department of Environment reminds citizens that during the months of June, July and August it is prohibited to use sewage sludge or any animal manure as agricultural fertilizer, as it adversely affects the quality of life, causing, in some cases, Unpleasant odors and the proliferation of flies and mosquitoes, especially when agricultural practice is not done correctly.
This action has been taking place during the last years in different plots of the municipal district of Jumilla because the purifiers produce thousands of tonnes of sludge with a high fertilizing power, usable as an amendment to the soil given its richness in organic matter and nutrients.
Like all summers, from the Environment of the City of Jumilla is remembered that it is collected as a very seriousinfraction made and that can be sanctioned with a fine of 3,000 euros.
However, during this summer period and to give output to the sludge generated by the Municipal Wastewater Treatment Station, the municipal technicians have carried out an exhaustive study of the plots of the municipality in which sludge can be dumped without putting In jeopardy the public health of the citizens of Jumilla, taking into account that they are farthest from any home.
As reported by Councilor for the Environment, Juan Gil, instructions have also been given to Seprona, the Local Police, Environmental Agents and the Environmental Technical Service of the City, so that they are especially jealous in complying with this ordinance .
The mayor thanked the citizens in advance to: "Be careful in their spirit of civic participation," adding that "if any neighbor suffers discomfort for possible spills of sludge let this City know for its effects and considerations."
