Family serves more than 3,000 elderly people in the municipality of Jumilla (29/09/2016)

More than 3,000 elderly people receive social care in the municipality of Jumilla through the services of the Department of Family and Equal Opportunities.

This was stated by the Minister of Family and Equal Opportunities, Violante Thomas, who, along with the mayor of Jumilla, Juana Guardiola, visited today the Center for Child Development and Early Care and residence and day center for people with intellectual disabilities the association of parents of disabled children Jumillano (Aspajunide) and the day center for the elderly 'Miguel Marin Padilla'.

The minister highlighted the "commitment of the regional government for the expansion of places in residences and day centers."

In this regard, he said that in 2016 "have created 545 new jobs, representing a near 15 percent increase, so that the total supply is 3,993 seats between day centers and residences."

One of those beneficiaries of this increase, according to Thomas Violante, is the day center for older Jumilla, who has spent seven people attending the current 25.

In addition, the social center for the elderly Murciano Institute of Social Action (IMAS) has 2,989 members;

Nine people are linked to the home help service and there are 59 active users in Telecare.

Regarding the day center for the elderly, run by Aspajunide last June its members were transferred from the home of the elderly day center 'Miguel Marin Padilla' in order to improve their quality of care.

This center has a dedicated team of professionals who provide ongoing care in the treatment and affective treatment of users.

Violante Thomas stressed that this change has "many advantages" for those over Jumilla, among which cited the "recovery more room for social center where perform activities of promotion of autonomy and leisure time, as the population continues to rise. "

Public squares in this day center service, contracted with the IMAS, they are funded with 260,700 euros.

Care for people with disabilities in Aspajunide

The Department of Family and Equal Opportunities also funds more than 1.3 million care centers Aspajunide, which has a day center, a residence and a center of child development and early care, in which 147 users are being served.

Since 1983 Aspajunide works in the social integration of people with intellectual disabilities, as well as in the areas of prevention and rehabilitation.
