IU-Green asked suppress the use of the herbicide glyphosate as being potentially carcinogenic (03/06/2016)

The Municipal Group United Left-Greens Jumilla presented at the next plenary a motion asking that the use of the herbicide glyphosate by municipal services is eliminated.

Indicate that glyphosate is listed by the World Health Organization (WHO) as a cancer-causing chemical.

Based on this danger to health, demanding an immediate end to the use of this herbicide and technical change for technical or mechanical means which do not pose a risk to the environment, wildlife and humans.

They add that many reports show the danger and toxicity of this product, among which the one by the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), where warning of the dangers involved in the use of this compound.

Izquierda Unida explains that this component, which serves for the removal of herbs and shrubs, can now be used by municipal services.

For better detail this situation, including the resolutions to be adopted, calling for the elaboration of a report by the Department of Agriculture where the dose of glyphosate used in municipal gardens specified.

From the Municipal Group insist that use this type of herbicides is a cheap and effective option, but it has to change deplorable effects on people and the ecosystem.

In addition, they emphasize that the health of jumillano people must be above any other interest.

In its proposal also they request that the City of Jumilla rejects the use of glyphosate in all public places and replaced by non-polluting methods that are not harmful to health or the environment.

They also urge the departments of the City of Jumilla affected, to carry out appropriate campaigns for maximum dissemination to citizens, developing a municipal side to recommend to the population not using this chemical herbicide, reporting the risk involved .

Finally, we also request to be included in the specifications of technical conditions that should govern the hiring of maintenance services of green areas of Jumilla, a ban on this product and other similar features.
