Pedro Antonio Sanchez: "With effort and sacrifice Jumilla has managed to grow and export their wines to the whole world" (15/04/2016)

It highlights the regional government support to the sector with the establishment of the Bureau of Wine and the development of a new Strategic Plan for the Promotion of Product Food and Wine

The president of the Community, Pedro Antonio Sanchez, said today that "Jumilla wines are synonymous with success and recognition throughout the world" and praised the work of winegrowers and winemakers "to reinforce the image of this denomination abroad".

"With effort and sacrifice Jumilla has managed to grow and export their wines to the whole world," said regional chief executive, who attended today in Jumilla the ceremony awards XXII Quality Contest of the Jumilla, which this year celebrates its 50th anniversary.

Pedro Antonio Sánchez said that this "is a contest of prestige" and stressed that "the sum of all enabled achieving renowned wines of this land."

"The whole world knows today Jumilla," said the president of the Community, who said that both the quality and the wine tourism route "are a must to visit the region and have already attracted thousands of visitors."

In the past five years, visits to the Wine Route Jumilla increased by 57 percent.

He said the union of winemakers, along with research and internationalization "has provided more quality" wines of this denomination.

He further noted that the sum of all "makes any project in which we believe and on which work can be achieved".

Pedro Antonio Sánchez highlighted the regional government support to the wine sector with the establishment of the Bureau of wine last December and a new Strategic Plan for the Promotion of Product Food and Wine, in which the Executive Murcia works.

The Community also supports the profitability and modernization of the sector through the various lines of the Rural Development Programme, which includes support for the incorporation of young people to the sector, aid vineyard in organic farming and agri-environment measures and climate.

Also with the support program for the wine sector, with performances redevelopment aid of farms, wineries investments to modernize equipment and machinery, and promotion of wines in third countries.

Jumilla

Jumilla Designation of Origin has more than 21,600 hectares of vineyards, of which 40 percent are located in the municipality of Jumilla, with nearly 2,000 grape growers.

DO Jumilla, with 43 registered wineries, it is the largest and oldest in Spain.

Their main destinations are Germany, UK, Switzerland, Japan, China, Canada and Denmark.

This year's competition gives special attention to China because it is a market with great expectations and where they have already made significant promotional activities.

In the last wine year, the region exported wines for an amount of more than 146 million euros, a figure that ranks as the sixth largest exporting province of Spain.

The Murcia region is the only area of ​​Spain that has three designations of origin of wines.
