The painter Pedro Cano illustrates the bottle label special edition 50th anniversary of the Protected Designation of Origin Jumilla (14/04/2016)

The painter Pedro Cano is the author of the label that identifies the special series 50th anniversary of the Protected Designation of Origin Jumilla.

The image, a cluster of grape Monastrell sundrenched dawn illustrates a magnum bottle of 1.5 liters of which have been bottled 1,500 units will be designed to promote.

The bottled wine has been previously selected by the tasting committee Regulatory Council between the samples submitted by the wineries that have participated in the process.

It is a wine intended to be representative of Jumilla, since it is made from Monastrell autochthonous variety, which has remained twelve months in barrels and dates from the vintage 2013.

Pedro Cano was honorary president of Quality Contest Jumilla wines in 2005 and is among all the presidents of honor invited this year to mark the 50th anniversary.

This year, the XXIIª edition takes place in the Regional Museum of Wine 'Arsenal' of Jumilla that has opened its doors especially to host this event in an ideal and extraordinarily conditioning framework for this purpose.

There, 30 tasters from three continents (Oceania, Asia and Europe) valued at nearly blind tasting samples submitted by 200 wineries attached to the denomination of origin.

Among the professionals involved this year, two murcianos names;

Fran Hidalgo and Joaquin Reyes.

The vice president of the association of Chinese sommeliers, Feng Weidong, Frenchman Laurent Camarassa sommelier and Master of Wine (equivalent to a wine professor accredited worldwide) Robert Geddes.

The tastings take place during the day, Thursday, in the morning and evening, and tomorrow, in the morning.

At night, at 21 pm in Pius XII halls of Santa Ana del Monte, will take place the awards to selected wines, classified into ten categories, which gold, silver and bronze medals will be awarded.

President of the Autonomous Community of Murcia, Pedro Antonio Sanchez, has confirmed his attendance at the event, along with the Minister of agriculture, environment and agricultural development of the Castilla-La Mancha, Francisco Martínez Arroyo, the Minister of Water, agriculture and environment of the Autonomous Community of Murcia, Adela Martinez-Cacho, and the mayor of Jumilla, Juana Guardiola.

On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Council, its president Pedro Lencina has presented all sommeliers with a replica of the slope found in archaeological excavations of Jumilla with bunches of grapes, dated at 3000 BC
