IU-green highlights the city council's incoherence with the issue of cleaning lots (04/11/2020)

Last December we had news of the fall of a dog in one of the manholes of the old municipal treatment plant.

Fortunately, it was not very deep and the owner was able to retrieve the animal. Since then, the IU Verdes organization has monitored the state of that area, giving the City Council an opportunity to fix the fencing, seal the manholes and clean the municipal property of weeds. In addition to that, it is necessary to clean all the organic matter that remained in those ponds because rain and seepage can contaminate the waters in that area and it has been the cause of a fire last summer not being able to put it out until weeks after it started. The City Council's incoherence is total with this matter, not only did they forget that the fire this summer occurred because the fencing in the area is broken, but they also did not "remember" that it is a municipal lot full of weeds. There are also a good number of manholes that, although not very deep, are dangerous enough if children, pets or even adults fall.

There are sections without fencing that make it possible for this type of accident to happen.

It seems that there are lots that must be kept pristine and others, even if they are owned by the City Council, it seems that they can be as they want. In line with what has been commented, we want to tell the public that as it happens periodically, orders for cleaning plots have been sent to individuals, who follow this type of order.

For IU Verdes, the City Council should be the first individual to apply this type of order to its own lots and properties.

Cleaning, sealing manholes and repairing the fencing of that area for what it contains.

In the near future, this area should be cleaned and used for uses such as those that have been proposed in the past or may be proposed.

At this time the large open spaces, relatively close to the urban area and the Santa Ana Highway, would be a good alternative to decongest other sites.
