The City Council makes provisional balance of the damages produced by the rains (18/09/2019)

The greatest destruction has occurred in private rural farms, still to be quantified.

The Department of Agriculture has valued the arrangement of public infrastructure at about 300,000 euros.

The mayor of Jumilla, Juana Guardiola, accompanied by the Councilors of Agriculture and Emergencies, Juan Gil and José Antonio Jiménez, as well as the chief officer of the Local Police, Antonio Luis Mula, has offered this morning a press conference in which he has taken stock of the damages caused by the rains of the last days.

The greatest destruction has occurred in many rural roads, "some of them being impassable," said the first local authority.

"From the first moment we are working on putting them back to perfection with our own means and with the different companies of the locality that have appropriate machinery."

The Department of Agriculture has valued the arrangement of these public rural infrastructure at about 300,000 euros.

"Any neighbor who has affected roads that will send it to us, in case we don't have it located," he added.

Similarly, there have been many infrastructures and private farms affected, especially in the border areas with Castilla La Mancha, where Pedrisco fell in the early hours of Saturday.

The agrarian organizations and the Agrarian Regional Office have not yet provided data on affected hectares.

The amount of water dropped ranged between 125 mm and almost 200 mm, according to points in the term.

Security preventive

The security preventive convened last Wednesday afternoon was active until Sunday and coordinated by the Local Police.

They were also part of Civil Protection, Civil Guard, Firefighters, Environmental Agents, Red Cross, Sanitary Services, Aguas de Jumilla, as well as various councilors and spokespersons of municipal groups.

"Both the Delegation of the Government of Spain and the Regional Government and the socialist deputy of this area have been continuously in touch to know the incidents," said the mayor, who also thanked the good work done by all the preventive.

The 112 received 24 calls, while the Local Police made 41 services for calls from neighbors and another 30 carried out in the streets, to which we must join another 32 made by Civil Protection.

Firefighters made five outlets for water bilge, including the Pediatric Center, which had to be transferred to the Health Center.

The personnel of Aguas de Jumilla were constantly aware of the sewers and the different damages, without having to cut the supply of drinking water at any time.

Collaboration with other municipalities

Civil Protection Volunteers of Jumilla and Firefighters moved to Santomera and Los Alcázares to collaborate in the recovery works of these areas, much more affected.

It is also planned that a Local Police patrol will move to Los Alcazares next weekend, as well as Civil Protection.

Extraordinary plenary

For tomorrow, Thursday at 2:00 pm, an extraordinary plenary session is planned, with the objective of making an institutional declaration so that Jumilla is included as a catastrophic zone and thus join the proposals approved in the Regional Assembly and other municipalities.
