Archaeological excavations are completed in the Bronze Age village of Cerro del Tío Pimentón (16/07/2019)

This Sunday, the archaeological excavations in the Bronze Age village of Cerro del Tío Pimentón, located in the Montesinos area, ended.

They are framed within a project of the University Institute of Research in Archeology and Historical Heritage (INAPH) of the University of Alicante, to study and define the similarities and convergences between the cultural groups of the Bronze Age of the Vinalopó Valley and the Altiplano de Jumilla y Yecla.

A total of 15 students and PhD students from the Universities of Alicante, Murcia and Granada participated in the excavation, as well as a student from the University of Lausanne (Switzerland).

The works have focused on the western part of the town, where several rooms are appreciated, one of them of great size, that has awakened great expectations.

The investigations have been directed by Francisco Javier Jover Maestre, professor of the University of Alicante and Director of the INAPH;

Juan Antonio López Padilla, technician of the Archaeological Museum of Alicante (MARQ);

Palmira Torregrosa Giménez, professor at the University of Alicante;

Estefanía Gandía Cutillas and the director of the Jerónimo Molina Municipal Museum, Emiliano Hernández Carrión.

The works have been carried out thanks to the collaborations of the INAPH of the University of Alicante, the City council of Jumilla, through the Department of Culture, and Bodegas Hijos de Juan Gil.
