Jumilla will commemorate the World Day of the ELA by illuminating the City Council in green (19/06/2019)

This Friday (June 21) marks the World Day of the ELA (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis) and Jumilla will take part in it by illuminating the facade of the City Hall green, within the #LuzporlaELA campaign.

The objective of this initiative is to give visibility to the people affected by this disease, raise funds to improve the quality of life of patients and relatives and, above all, keep alive the lines of research in search of the cure of the ELA.

In 2018, 168 monuments from 132 municipalities were added to this initiative.

Also, from the Community of the ELA the population is encouraged to photograph themselves in the buildings of their cities illuminated with green and to spread them in social networks with the hashtag # LuzporlaELA.

Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a degenerative neuromuscular disease in which the cells that control the movement of the voluntary musculature diminish their functioning gradually and die, causing a progressive paralysis of the affected person in a short space of time, preventing them from smiling, speaking , eat, move or breathe on their own.

The average life expectancy of patients usually does not exceed five years.
