Grant awarded of 80,000 euros to rebuild a house in the Coimbra field (11/12/2018)

The Ministry of Tourism and Culture has granted a grant of 79,504.22 euros for the enhancement of the Iberian deposit of Coimbra Barranco Ancho, as reported today by the mayor of Jumilla, Juana Guardiola, Councilor for Culture, Pilar Martinez, and the municipal archaeologist, Emiliano Hernández.

It was a public call for aid to the archaeological sites of municipal ownership existing in the region and to which the City of Jumilla presented two proposals: reconstruction of House M in the town of Coimbra and the conservation of the paleontological site of the Sierra de las Goats, coming forward the first.

With this grant will be carried out the complete reconstruction of a house excavated in recent years by the University of Murcia.

The total cost of the project will be 93,019.93 euros, with the City Council contributing € 13,515.71.

It must have been one of the most outstanding houses of the town, since it had cupboards, slices, oven and central home.

It has contributed a large quantity of material of exceptional quality, such as large iron grills, very scarce in Iberian archeology, several richly decorated storage vessels, as well as numerous iron agricultural tools.

All the trousseau found inside the house will be placed in its original place.

As reported, the works will begin in 2019 and will have a multidisciplinary team of professionals in different areas of heritage, archeology or architecture, with the aim that the visitor can enjoy a real-size Iberian house, as well as its importance within the urban layout of the town.

In addition, it will preserve the structures found, such as walls and cupboards of adobes or plasters, avoiding their degradation due to erosion and inclement weather.

All the work will be done with materials of the same texture and color as the originals, but in such a way that what is built is perfectly distinguished from what has been conserved.

Jumilla City Council is committed to the protection of the historical-artistic heritage of the municipality and its value, in addition to advancing the projection of the site of Coimbra, which for three years is being supported by economically supporting the excavation campaigns and with its putting into value with the days of doors open to the public that are organized during the excavations.
